In Almaty, police detained a man who was on the street with a knife. He was handed over to medics and hospitalized in a specialized institution. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The incident occurred on August 30 in the Bostandyk district. A report about a man with a knife was received by the police, after which a patrol was sent to the scene.

"The arriving officers confirmed the information and ensured the safety of citizens. The man was detained and handed over to an ambulance crew. It was established that he is registered with the Mental Health Center, and he was subsequently hospitalized in a specialized medical institution," the Almaty police department reported.

The police emphasized that there is currently no threat to the public.

Earlier, Almaty resident Anastasia Sultanova said on Threads that the man allegedly repeatedly disturbed residents of the area, damaged property, and threatened passersby. According to her, neighbors had previously contacted various authorities and the police.

The author of the post also claimed that the man spoke of an intention to harm children and mentioned schools No. 70 and No. 189. She stated that in one of the videos he allegedly threatened young people repairing the road with a knife.

The police department urged residents to remain calm, not to spread unverified information, and to call 102 in similar situations.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote about a similar incident in Astana. In the Abu Dhabi Plaza shopping center, a 19-year-old young man with a knife was detained, who, according to eyewitnesses, threatened boutique employees. The police reported that he was taken to the department to clarify the circumstances, after which an ambulance was called and he was handed over to his father.

The administration of Abu Dhabi Plaza stated that the security service promptly responded to the incident and called law enforcement. No information about casualties was received.
