Police officers in Almaty detained a man on Raiymbek Avenue whose behavior raised suspicions. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
During a search, a knife and a grenade-like object were found in the detainee's bag. An investigative team and sappers were called to the scene.
Later inspection showed that the grenade was a training device and posed no danger.
"According to the detainee, he allegedly found these items earlier, and carried the knife for household needs. This information is being verified," police reported.
It was also established that the man had a previous criminal record.
The Almaty police department urged citizens not to carry items that could pose a potential danger. If objects resembling weapons or ammunition are found, police ask to immediately report it by calling 102.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that police in Almaty found a cache of firearms stolen during the January events.
