Almaty has shown the progress of construction of the future light rail transit (LRT) depot. The facility is being built in the Industrial Zone of the Alatau district, on a plot at 72 Sokpakbayev Street (within the perimeter of Fariza Ongarsynova, Monke bi and Bauyrzhan Momyshuly streets) on an area of about 19 hectares. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The future depot is designed to service and accommodate up to 50 trains. Cars will be parked here, and they will also undergo technical inspection, repairs and preparation for daily operation.

Nurbol Alipov, an expert at the Almaty Center for Urban Development (CRG), said that earthworks and backfilling of soil are currently underway at the depot site. The works involve 24 dump trucks, seven excavators, six loaders, four rollers and two water trucks.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that the laying of sleepers and rails for the future line had begun on Bauyrzhan Momyshuly Street.

Due to the active phase of works on sections of Momyshuly Street and Abylai Khan Avenue, traffic will be temporarily restricted during these holiday weekends.
