A 33-year-old man has begun to see after a complex operation performed at the Central Clinical Hospital in Almaty. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The patient had stage IV keratoconus. When the disease worsens, a person's vision deteriorates.
Five months ago, a decision was made to perform a corneal transplant. The operation was carried out by Gulzat Abdraimova, head of the ophthalmology department at Almaty's Central Clinical Hospital.
Today, five months later, the patient came for a check-up. The condition of the cornea is assessed positively. The man's vision has been restored.
"Behind every operation is the fate of a real person. It is especially important to give young patients the opportunity to preserve their vision, live a full life, study, work and plan for the future," said Gulzat Abdraimova, head of the ophthalmology department.
Corneal transplantation is one of the complex areas of ophthalmic surgery. It requires high qualifications, modern surgical technologies and professional postoperative monitoring.
It is worth noting that such operations at Almaty's Central Clinical Hospital are performed within the framework of a donor program. Since the beginning of the year, hospital specialists have performed 15 corneal transplants.
