The Specialized Interdistrict Court for Criminal Cases of Almaty Region acquitted a woman who stabbed her husband to death. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The incident occurred on May 1 of this year. Public activist Dina Tansari wrote on social media that the woman had been a victim of family conflicts for 16 years. Tansari learned this from the woman's relatives.
During 16 years of marriage, the woman had been treated twice for sexually transmitted infections. Moreover, her husband regularly beat her.
On the day of the tragedy, the man beat his wife again. Panicking, she ran out into the street, looking for a phone to call the police. When she returned home, her husband tried to hit her again. In self-defense, she stabbed him once in the chest with a kitchen knife.
The woman called the police and an ambulance. The criminal case was heard in the Specialized Interdistrict Court for Criminal Cases of Almaty Region. The charge was murder.
"The jury found the defendant not guilty of the crime under Part 1 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Accordingly, the court issued an acquittal," the court said.
The preventive measure of "detention" against the defendant was lifted. The victim's civil claim for moral and property damages was not satisfied.
