A woman in Almaty nearly went blind after trying to change her eye color, the Ministry of Health reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The resident of Almaty went abroad to change her eye color. However, after the operation, she faced severe complications: glaucoma and corneal opacity.

"Due to complications, the woman's vision sharply deteriorated: one eye became completely blind, and the other could only distinguish light. As a result, she was assigned Group I disability," the statement said.

Seeking help, the woman contacted several clinics in Kazakhstan and abroad, but no specialist dared to restore her vision. Notably, the eye that could still sense light was her only hope for vision restoration, the ministry said.

After the patient's request, specialists at the Almaty City Central Clinical Hospital decided to save the eye that retained light perception and performed a complex combined operation lasting about two hours. During the surgery, an anti-glaucoma operation to reduce intraocular pressure and a corneal transplant were performed.

Thanks to the high professionalism of the doctors, intraocular pressure was reduced, and the vision of the eye, which before surgery could only distinguish light, was restored. After surgical treatment, the patient began to see again. Currently, she is under constant medical supervision and undergoing a rehabilitation course.
