A plant for producing humanoid and educational robots will be built in Almaty. It will be the first overseas manufacturing facility of one of the world leaders in robotics — UBTECH Robotics. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Almaty Akimat, the agreement to implement the project was signed during a business forum in Shanghai with the participation of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The document was signed by the Almaty Akimat, Nero Robotics, and the founder of UBTECH Robotics, Zhou Jian.
Almaty became the first city outside China where UBTECH Robotics opens its own production. Construction of the plant has already begun, and the launch is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
The project provides not only for the production of robots but also for the creation of an engineering and research center. It also plans to introduce modern technologies and train Kazakhstani specialists in robotics.
The construction of the unique enterprise became known in November 2025, after the signing of a preliminary agreement between the Almaty Akimat, UBTECH Robotics, and NERO Group.
Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, met with leaders of the Chinese tech sector, and invited them to build Data Center Valley in Ekibastuz. The President of Kazakhstan also proposed to Chinese partners to create a space where goods cross the border as quickly as data is transmitted over the Internet.
