An album about Kazakh soldiers who died in Estonia between 1941 and 1944 was presented in Almaty. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
At the event, Andrey Lazurin, head of the Estonian military-historical society "Frontline", explained that the work on the album took three years.
"We worked together with the central archive of the Ministry of Defense and the State Archive of Estonia, comparing records of the deceased with burial sites. This album directly shows the Kazakh soldiers we know and where they are buried. The album contains photographs of monuments, descriptions, coordinates, and information about those buried there," Lazurin said.
The authors identified approximately 700 Kazakh soldiers who died during the war in Estonia. Their burial places were unknown.
"I think we will continue work in this direction. While working with the list, we contacted our Kazakh colleagues and tried to get this information published. I know that several families have learned where their relatives are buried. Our colleagues in Kazakhstan issued monument certificates indicating where their ancestors are buried. I know that several such certificates were presented in Astana," Lazurin shared.
