A 29-year-old man was detained in the Medeu district of Almaty on suspicion of drug distribution. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
During a personal search, police found dozens of bundles wrapped in tape. Some contained marijuana, while others, according to preliminary data, contained synthetic drugs intended for sale.
Suspect's confession
According to the detainee, about a month ago he found an online job offer as a drug courier and began distributing drugs in the city.
Criminal case
A criminal case has been opened. The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility.
Police are currently working to identify the drug supply channel, the scheme's organizer, and other possible participants.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that the number of officially registered drug addicts in Almaty had decreased. Specialists are monitoring 1,148 people — 2% fewer than a year earlier. The number of minors on the register dropped from 17 to 12, and over five months of 2026, more than 300 patients underwent inpatient treatment.
