Neurosurgeons in Almaty performed a complex operation on a four-year-old child who suffered severe injuries after falling from a fifth-floor window. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
At the Children's Emergency Care Center, doctors diagnosed the patient with multiple injuries, including a compression fracture of the first lumbar vertebra with displacement and spinal cord compression.
A consultation decided to perform two-stage surgical treatment. First, neurosurgeons performed decompression of the spinal canal, then stabilized the lumbar spine using a fixation system.
The operation was performed by the head of the neurosurgery department, Aidyn Nusipkozha, together with neurosurgeons Mukhtar Ibragimov and Altai Anarbai.
"We managed to restore motor functions. After rehabilitation, the child will be able to walk independently," Nusipkozha said.
According to the health department, the child's condition has significantly improved. After completing inpatient treatment, the child was discharged home for further observation and rehabilitation.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that 26-year-old Alexander Artukov returned home to his family after a month-long battle for life in the burn unit of Almaty City Clinical Hospital No. 4. He suffered severe thermal burns and barotrauma from a gas cylinder explosion.
