In Almaty, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Security Committee stopped the activities of a group of companies involved in the smuggling and illegal production of medicines. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the investigation, four pharmaceutical companies organized a scheme for supplying medicines from neighboring states, including potent drugs. The products were then sold through a pharmacy chain in the country.

In addition, law enforcement officers uncovered facts of underground drug production, including those containing psychotropic substances. During operational measures, warehouses and an illegal production workshop were discovered.

"Counterfeit products posed a real threat to the life and health of citizens, as they were manufactured in unsanitary conditions. Consumption of such drugs can lead to irreversible consequences for humans," the police reported.

Also, as part of the investigation, officials of the pharmaceutical control department were detained, who, according to the investigation, provided patronage to the organizers of illegal activities for a monetary reward.

Their actions are qualified under Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan ("Bribery"). Other circumstances of the case are being established.
