A 56-year-old man was detained in Almaty after he reported a supposedly planted bomb in the building of one of the district police departments. The information about the explosive device was not confirmed, the city police department said. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
After the call was received, emergency services arrived at the building. Specialists inspected the premises and the surrounding area.
No explosive devices, explosives, ammunition or other dangerous items were found. Police launched a pre-trial investigation and identified the author of the message.
"During the pre-trial investigation, officers of our unit identified the author of the message. He turned out to be a 56-year-old man. He admitted that he had not actually planted any explosive device, but made the bomb report intentionally. The suspect has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. A criminal case has been opened on this fact," said Maksat Pshan, head of the Almaly district police department.
The man's motive has not been specified. He is currently in a temporary detention facility.
Police reminded that every bomb report is treated as a real threat. Deliberately false information can lead to criminal liability.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that more than 2,000 drug packages were found in the apartment of a resident of Astana.
