A criminal trial is underway in Almaty against Sanzhar Bokaev, former advisor to the general director of KazTransGas JSC. While reading the charges, the prosecutor detailed schemes of fraud, money laundering, organizing the theft of granite slabs, illegal logging, and the deliberate spread of fake news. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the prosecutor, after Bokaev successfully staged the story of the granite slab theft, he decided to continue creating fake scandals through criminal means.
In the autumn of 2025, he planned to organize an information attack on the construction company "Bazis-A" and government agencies that were improving Bauma grove. A meeting with residents of the Turksib district was scheduled for October 26, and on the eve of this event, Bokaev decided to provoke a scandal. His plan was to secretly cut down trees and then loudly claim that the grove was being barbarically and illegally destroyed to build commercial real estate there.
For this, Bokaev and his personal videographer U. Nusipkozha again turned to A. Khamrakulov (the same person who helped them with the granite slab theft). The clients gave money, and Khamrakulov bought a chainsaw at one of the city's pawnshops.
Late in the evening of October 24, 2025, people hired by Khamrakulov secretly entered Bauma grove. Over two and a half hours, they deliberately cut down and damaged 16 trees, including maples, acacias, and elms. That same night, October 25, immediately after the crime, Nusipkozha met with the perpetrators and paid them 100,000 tenge.
After making sure everything was done, the organizers moved to the public part of the plan. That same night, Bokaev and Nusipkozha pretended that they had received an anonymous message about the logging on their phone from a foreign number. They arrived at the grove with flashlights and filmed a video in which they staged a chase after "unknown criminals."
The next day, October 26, right before the meeting with district residents, Bokaev brought public activists to the grove to show them the trees that had been cut down on his own orders. On camera, he stated that the trees were being destroyed by certain interested parties to clear space for the construction of residential complexes.
Bokaev posted this edited video on his Instagram page. The prosecution believes that he pretended to be a defender of public interests and deliberately deceived his audience.
The prosecutor emphasized that the result of this self-promotion was real harm to nature and the state nature park "Medeo." For this, Bokaev and Nusipkozha are charged with illegal logging and destruction of trees committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.
Recall that former top manager and public figure Sanzhar Bokaev is suspected under articles on fraud, theft, money laundering, illegal logging, and dissemination of knowingly false information (Articles 190, 188, 218, 340, and 274 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan).
The investigation also believes that Bokaev could have organized and financed illegal actions by involving people with low income.
The prosecutor in court also described in detail the prosecution's version of how Bokaev stole millions through a front company of a relative.
