Since the beginning of 2026, Almaty has recorded 3,035 road traffic accidents, in which 3,452 people were injured and 73 people died. These data for the period from January 1 to May 31 were published on the legal statistics portal. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The highest number of accidents in five months occurred in the Almaly district — 501 accidents. In second place is the Alatau district, where 473 incidents were recorded. Third place was taken by the Bostandyk district with 456 accidents. Next in the anti-rating are the Auezov district — 429 accidents, Medeu district — 369, Turksib district — 337, Zhetysu district — 270, and Nauryzbai district — 200 accidents.

Four districts — Almaly, Alatau, Bostandyk, and Auezov — account for more than 60% of all registered accidents in the city. In total, in January-May, 3,452 people received injuries of varying severity in road accidents in Almaty, and 73 people died. On average, during this period, about 20 accidents occurred per day in the city, with more than 22 people injured daily.

Almaty remains one of the regions with the highest number of road traffic accidents in the country. According to analysts, in January-May, about 12,300 accidents were registered in Kazakhstan, with approximately every fourth occurring in the southern capital.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that over the past three years, the number of road accidents in the country has more than doubled, but mortality from accidents decreased by 8.4%.
