Almaty to build Kazakhfilm park with open-air cinema screenings

Almaty plans to create a Kazakhfilm park with an amphitheatre for open-air film screenings. The city akimat shared plans for the new space. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

What the new cinema park will look like

The new cinema park is conceived as a new public space dedicated to the history of national cinema. It will be a space at the intersection of culture and urban life. The park is intended to become a modern place for walks, recreation and getting to know national cinematography.

"The project plans thematic zones, walking alleys, interactive and multimedia installations, a children's space and recreation areas," the akimat of the southern capital said.

Moreover, the history of Kazakh cinema is proposed to be told in a modern format. Visitors will be able to learn about the development of the national film industry, cult films and the country's cultural heritage.

Film screenings, thematic meetings and cultural events will be held on the park's territory.

"If the project is implemented, Almaty will have a new place where the history of Kazakh cinema will be presented in an interesting, accessible and modern way," the city administration concluded.

Who is developing the project

The developer of the design and estimate documentation is ENVICON-A LLP, which also created the improvement project for the Panfilov pedestrian street and Arbat. Seven Stroi Development LLP was chosen as the contractor. The founder is listed as Yerik Utepov, who is also linked to several Kazakh companies registered in Almaty.

The exact cost of the project has not yet been announced, as the documentation is still being adjusted. The park is to be implemented through private investment, but an investor has not yet been found.

How the noise issue will be addressed

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that to protect residents of neighbouring buildings from the noise of the open-air cinema, the park's territory will be divided into zones and planted with trees. Food courts and retail outlets are also promised to be installed in the park.
