Deputy of the Almaty maslikhat Zhauresh Umirbayeva at a regular session raised issues of the state of city roads and the quality of passenger transportation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to her, residents of the metropolis continue to complain about overcrowded buses, non-compliance with schedules, and the sanitary condition of public transport. In addition, the quality of the road surface is criticized.

"The quality of the asphalt concrete pavement laid on our roads requires special attention. Unfortunately, we are faced with the fact that the new pavement deforms within a short time, ruts and cracks appear," she noted.

Head of the Almaty Road Infrastructure Development Department Olzhas Shabdanov said that the authorities intend to strengthen control over the quality of repairs.

"In 2026, during medium repairs, we envisage replacing not only the upper layers but also the lower layers of the pavement, which will enhance the durability of the road surface," he said.

Speaking about transport projects, the official reported on the development of LRT and the metro.

"At the end of the month, we plan to start construction and installation work," Shabdanov said about the LRT project.

According to him, work on the Kalkaman metro station is planned to be completed by the end of June, after which commissioning work will begin.

"In December of this year, we will fully put the facility into operation," the head of the department stated.

The authorities also continue to work on improving the quality of transportation.

"To date, about 1,200 violations have been identified. It is also planned to increase the staff of the service from 200 to 325 people, which will strengthen control over compliance with intervals, quality of service, and transport safety," Shabdanov added.
