Former police officer Serik Nakimov, who stabbed his wife to death in Almaty, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to KTK, the perpetrator is obliged to pay the victim's side 10 million tenge as moral damages. The investigation fully proved that the ex-policeman brutally stabbed his wife to death.

Two previous expert examinations concluded that Serik Nakimov was in a state of affect at the time of the crime. However, the Nauryzbay District Court, without changing the article, sentenced the 39-year-old man to 15 years in prison.

"Nakimov Serik Kurmantayuly is found guilty of committing the crime provided for by Article 99, Part 2, Clause 5 of the Criminal Code, and is sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment. He shall serve his sentence in a medium-security institution of the penal system, and 10 million tenge in moral compensation and 3 million tenge for representative fees shall be recovered in favor of Shanybek Raziya Sakimkyzy," the court said.

The relatives of the deceased had previously demanded life imprisonment for the brutal son-in-law. However, they agree with today's court verdict as well.

At the same time, lawyer Meirman Shekeyev, who defended the interests of the victim's side, said that an appeal could be filed in the future.

"We are satisfied with this verdict. Because when not one but two examinations were ordered, he was found to be in a state of affect. I will talk to the victim, and if she is not satisfied with the moral damages, we may file an appeal in that part," the lawyer said.

The horrific event occurred a year and a half ago. Serik Nakimov, who served 15 years in the internal affairs bodies, stabbed his wife to death in front of their children. He then attempted to kill himself.
