A driver who chased a woman and pointed an object resembling a weapon at her has been detained in Almaty following a video that spread on social media. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
A shocking video of the chase appeared on social media, showing an unknown driver with a weapon blocking the path of an Almaty resident.
According to the woman, the stranger followed her from Dostyk Street to Al-Farabi Avenue. After that, she entered the Esentai parking lot, where the man blocked her path and pointed an object resembling a huge pistol or machine gun at her.
"I don't know what he had in mind. This is clearly the behavior of a sick or drunk person," the Almaty resident wrote, asking law enforcement to take action.
The Almaty police said they found the video of the incident during social media monitoring.
"Officers of the Medeu district police department identified the suspect, detained him, and brought him to the police. It was established that the demonstrated item is a toy pistol and does not belong to firearms," the Almaty police department reported.
An administrative case was opened against the driver for petty hooliganism. The materials were sent to court. Additionally, an administrative report was filed against the man for violating traffic rules.
The police emphasized that even a toy pistol can frighten others and cause panic.
"Demonstrating objects that look like weapons in public places is unacceptable, even if they are toys," the police warned.
The Almaty police department added that such actions require immediate response from law enforcement.
