In Almaty, 885 families in need of improved housing conditions will receive keys to new apartments as part of the first stage of the housing program, the city administration reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The key handover ceremony was attended by Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy and Chairman of the Board of Otbasy Bank JSC Lyazzat Ibragimova. Housing will be provided to families from the municipal housing stock.

According to Satybaldy, providing citizens with affordable housing remains one of the key priorities of state social policy.

"On the instructions of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Kemelovich Tokayev, improving the well-being of citizens is one of the most important areas of state policy. Special attention is paid to providing housing for those who really need state support. This year, Almaty plans to improve the housing conditions of more than 11,000 needy citizens," said the mayor of Almaty.

He noted that the first stage will be the beginning of large-scale work to provide Almaty residents with housing. After the transfer of 885 apartments, it is planned to provide another 1,832 apartments in the second stage, 670 in the third, and 6,161 in the fourth. Thus, by the end of the year, thousands of families will be able to solve the housing issue.

In total, in 2026, it is planned to provide rental housing to 8,250 citizens. Another 1,298 people will be able to purchase apartments under preferential loan programs, and at least 1,650 young specialists will become owners of their own housing under the "Almaty Zhastary" program.

In addition, additional state support measures continue to operate in Almaty. For representatives of socially vulnerable categories of citizens, housing certificates are provided that compensate part of the down payment when applying for a mortgage loan. This year, it is planned to issue 200 such certificates.

The mechanism of subsidizing part of the rent for citizens who rent housing is also preserved. This measure should reduce the financial burden on needy families and increase the affordability of housing.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that in June 2026, 39,053 housing purchase and sale transactions were registered in Kazakhstan — 28.4% more than in May. The largest number of transactions occurred in Almaty, Astana and Karaganda region, while the main volume of the market was apartments — 29,432 transactions, or 75.4% of the total.
