A complex brain surgery was performed on an 8-year-old child in Almaty. The operation was carried out by Kazakh neurosurgeons together with a professor from Germany. Doctors identified a congenital pathology called hamartoma in the child's brain. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

This is a rare formation resulting from abnormalities in the development of brain tissue. The patient had shown neurological abnormalities since birth.

"In particular, there were episodes of unmotivated laughter, sleep disturbances, delayed speech and mental development, headaches and cases of loss of consciousness," doctors say.

The child had been under medical supervision for several years and received medication. However, despite treatment measures, epileptic seizures did not stop.

The foreign specialist, together with Kazakh colleagues, used neuromonitoring technologies during the operation and removed the hamartoma using a microsurgical method.
