In the City Perinatal Center No. 2 in Almaty, doctors saved a premature baby born weighing only 740 grams. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Due to placental abruption and bleeding at 26 weeks of pregnancy, an emergency cesarean section was performed. From the first minutes of life, the baby required intensive medical care.
80 days of struggle
According to the Ministry of Health, the baby was on a ventilator for 40 days. Then, for about two more weeks, respiratory support was provided using the CPAP method through the nose.
As the director of the City Perinatal Center No. 2 in Almaty, Svetlana Rakhimova, said, the little patient spent 56 days in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Little winner
After the child's condition improved, he was transferred to a specialized department for further care and rehabilitation. On the 80th day of life, the baby was discharged home.
According to doctors, behind every day were round-the-clock monitoring, modern methods of nursing newborns, and the enormous work of medical staff.
Neonatal indicators in Kazakhstan
The ministry noted that Kazakhstan occupies one of the leading places in Central Asia in providing medical care to newborns. According to a joint report by the World Bank, WHO, UNICEF, UN, and IGME, in 2025 the neonatal mortality rate in the country was 3.04 cases per 1,000 newborns. This is the best indicator in the region and is close to that of the United States.
