More than 50,000 residents of Almaty took part in a citywide cleanup campaign dedicated to World Cleanup Day and City Day. Environmental events were held in all districts, the city akimat reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Almaty residents cleaned up parks, squares, courtyards, public spaces and recreation areas. Students, volunteers, representatives of public organizations, and employees of utility services, enterprises and institutions joined the campaign. In addition to cleaning, participants planted trees: in total, more than 1,000 saplings were planted in the city during the cleanup.
One of the main venues was the Ayusai visitor center. More than a thousand people gathered there, including residents, young people, volunteers and city service workers. Almaty akim Darkhan Satybaldy took part in tree planting together with them.
On the territory of Ayusai, 100 coniferous trees were planted — 50 pines and 50 firs. Work at this site proceeded simultaneously with cleanup and landscaping in other parts of the city.
The cleanup was held as part of the nationwide Taza Qazaqstan program initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The akimat noted that the program is aimed at developing a caring attitude toward the environment and a culture of cleanliness.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that events for World Cleanup Day are planned in all regions of Kazakhstan. In Astana, they are part of an environmental month that will last until October 10, while in Turkistan region the cleanup will be combined with tree planting.
