Doctors at the Almaty Oncology Center successfully performed a complex surgery on a patient with ovarian cancer. The woman had a giant tumor weighing more than 10 kilograms removed. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to medics, about 6 liters of fluid (ascites) had accumulated in the patient's abdominal cavity, and the tumor was already compressing the ureters and adjacent organs.

According to the city health department, the operation lasted about three hours. Doctors removed the tumor, evacuated fluid from the abdominal cavity, and also performed removal of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and greater omentum. The next stage of the patient's treatment is a course of chemotherapy.

The Almaty Oncology Center notes that such operations require highly qualified surgeons and coordinated teamwork. Last year, they also successfully operated on a patient with a giant cyst, during which about 45 liters of fluid were evacuated.

Doctors reminded of the importance of regular gynecological check-ups and timely treatment.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that 30 cases of cancer were detected in Kazakhstan in one day.
