Almaty has adopted extensive measures to reduce traffic load ahead of the new school year. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

On the morning of September 1, 470 police officers will be on duty near schools, at pedestrian crossings, and on the busiest sections. Residents are asked not to drive personal cars to school entrances and to consider alternative modes of transportation in advance.

Enhanced Public Transport

During the first two weeks of the new school year, public transport and metro operations will be strengthened. About 500 additional buses from the reserve will be added to the existing 3,200 buses. This will increase the number of vehicles on high-demand routes and reduce intervals during peak hours. The number of trains will increase from 11 to 13, and the interval in the morning will be reduced to 3 minutes.

Safety Measures

Ahead of the new school year, the condition of road infrastructure near educational institutions was inspected jointly with the administrative police. Special attention was paid to traffic lights, road signs, and markings. As a result, more than 140 deficiencies were eliminated. Necessary work was carried out near all educational institutions. School areas will be under 24-hour video surveillance.

Restriction on Truck Traffic

During the first week of September, control over truck traffic will be strengthened. According to current restrictions, trucks weighing more than 8 tons are prohibited from traveling on designated sections from 07:00 to 22:00. This restriction does not apply to transportation necessary for the city's life support.

Work Organization

Large companies, banks, and other organizations located in the city center are recommended to consider temporarily transitioning some employees to remote work or making the start of the working day flexible during the first days of September.

In turn, structural divisions of the akimat and their subordinate organizations will take measures to transfer some employees to remote work from September 1 to 5, 2026, and also recommend using public transport.

Residents are asked to plan their routes in advance, avoid driving personal cars in the morning if possible, and use public transport and the metro.
