Almaty youth planted about 2,000 spruce trees at Kok-Zhailau. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Today at Kok-Zhailau, students from Almaty planted about 2,000 spruce trees. Together with the youth, the trees were planted by Minister of Ecology Alibek Kuantyrov, Almaty Akim Darkhan Satybaldy and representatives of Kazakh Tourism Development. Kursiv LifeStyle attended the event and reports how it went.
The event
From the very morning, participants dispersed to prepared plots with dug holes and began planting trees. The first tree was planted together by city leaders and invited officials, after which everyone else also took saplings and went each to their own plot.
Students of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, including staff of the Department of Botany and Agroecology, took part in the planting. Together with them, representatives of scientific organizations also planted spruce trees.
Minister's statement
Minister of Ecology Alibek Kuantyrov noted during the event that an environmental tree-planting campaign is taking place on the territory of the future Kok-Zhailau resort.
"Today, an environmental tree-planting campaign is taking place on the territory of the future Kok-Zhailau resort. The development of tourism infrastructure must be carried out with special attention to the preservation of nature. When one tree is removed, compensatory planting of ten trees will be ensured, and trees listed in the Red Book will not be transplanted or removed," said Minister of Ecology Alibek Kuantyrov.
Akim's words
Akim Darkhan Satybaldy also spoke about the participation of young people in environmental initiatives.
"The mountains are an integral part of Almaty and its identity. It is important for us that young people do not remain on the sidelines of issues related to the future of the city and its natural areas. Such initiatives provide an opportunity not only to talk about ecology, but also to personally participate in concrete work to preserve nature," he said.
Kazakh Tourism Development's position
After the tree planting, the General Director of Kazakh Tourism Development, Yerzhan Yerkinbayev, said that for the team of the Almaty SuperSki project this is not the last environmental campaign.
"It is important for us that the youth of Almaty themselves show interest in the future of the city, our mountains and Kok-Zhailau. We have already held a number of open meetings, listened to the opinions of young people and answered their questions. Therefore, even before the next stages of the implementation of Almaty SuperSki, we are starting with concrete environmental actions. Planting new trees is one of such steps," said General Director of Kazakh Tourism Development Yerzhan Yerkinbayev.
