The body found in the Almaty mountains has been identified as a climber who went missing 19 years ago. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The body was found on August 16 on the Severtsev glacier. Human bones and a backpack were first noticed by Belarusian tourists, who informed rescuers. The republican rescue team "Barys" and the "Kazaviaspas" helicopter were dispatched to an altitude of 4300 meters to retrieve the body from the Severtsev glacier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported at the time. Later, from photos that circulated, the deceased's daughter, Nellya Mikheeva, recognized her father's backpack.

According to Nellya, her father went to the mountains 19 years ago and had been missing since. Rescuers and police arrived at the scene and carried out the necessary work. The relatives of the deceased thanked the tourists, volunteers, and rescuers for their assistance in the search.
