The Almaty Run mass race took place in the capital's Triathlon Park in honor of Sports Day. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Over 2,500 residents and guests of the city ran 6.2 kilometers in the Almaty district, after which they took part in open workouts in workout, yoga, and arm wrestling.

Warm-up and workouts

Before the start, participants had a general warm-up. After the race, residents took part in open workouts in such sports as street workout, yoga, arm wrestling, and pull-ups on the horizontal bar.

Along with professional athletes, amateur runners, residents, and guests of the city took part in the race.

Goal: developing mass sports

Yerzhigit Userbay, deputy head of the directorate for sports events of the Astana akimat, emphasized that the main goal of the race is to develop mass sports in the country and promote a healthy lifestyle.

"More than 2,500 people are participating in the race. The reason it is called Almaty Run is that the event takes place in the Almaty district. Such mass sports events allow residents to be involved in an active lifestyle," he noted.

The race was supported not only by the district akimat but also by the city administration and the city prosecutor's office.

Participants' opinions

Judoist Bakhtiyar Pernebek, who came from Shymkent, also emphasized the importance of the sporting event.

"Sport is the key to health. I would like people not to stay away from such events. I wish everyone good health and the achievement of their goals," the participant said.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that Kazakh ultramarathon runner Mendybai Alimgazinov, together with two students, started the run "Quryltai ga zhol" from Astana to Almaty on August 10.
