The Almaty State Academic Puppet Theater won the Grand Prix at the VI International Puppet Theater Festival 'Shombay-fest 2026' in Kazan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The cultural event featured theater troupes from Kazakhstan, African countries, the Serbian Republic, and various regions of Russia. The competition involved 14 theaters and over 150 puppet theater artists.

The theater received the main prize for the performance 'Orteke,' which promotes national values and Kazakh cultural heritage. According to jury chairman David Burman, the decision to award the Grand Prix to the Almaty troupe was unanimous.
