In Almaty, since the beginning of the year, four groups have been identified whose members used dating to extort money and commit robberies. They were detained and convicted, but new episodes have emerged. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
This was reported by the city police department. According to the scheme described by police, a girl meets a young man online and arranges to meet at an apartment. When they are alone, strangers arrive, presenting themselves as her brothers.
“Then come threats, extortion of money and robbery. A romantic acquaintance turns into a criminal trap,” police said.
The department warned that a pre-planned crime may be hidden behind the correspondence. Citizens were urged not to agree to dubious meetings in unfamiliar places and to remain vigilant.
At the first signs of threat, police recommend immediately seeking help from law enforcement agencies.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote about a similar case in Almaty in October 2025. Three men who introduced themselves as the girl's brothers told her acquaintance that she was a minor, and under this pretext began extorting money, taking his phone and other belongings. After the victim contacted the police, the girl and three men were detained.
