Almaty police have identified shortcomings in the work of kick-scooter rental companies after new requirements for electric scooter operation came into force. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The inspection affected operators providing electric scooter rental services within the city.
According to police, the remarks concern the placement of registration numbers on electric scooters, the operation of the speed limit system in areas with high pedestrian traffic, and mechanisms that should prevent minors from renting scooters through other people's accounts.
All identified deficiencies were brought to the attention of the operators. Kick-scooter rental companies are obliged to eliminate violations as soon as possible and bring their operations into full compliance with legal requirements.
The police said they will continue to monitor the implementation of new norms and conduct repeated inspections.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that from July 1, new rules for electric scooters came into effect in Kazakhstan, and from August 25, restrictions will become even stricter.
Inspection Results
The Almaty police inspection of kick-scooter rental companies revealed several key violations. In particular, operators did not fully comply with the requirement to install registration numbers on electric scooters. This complicates the process of identifying scooters and holding their owners accountable.
Additionally, malfunctions were found in the speed limit system in areas with high pedestrian traffic. This system should automatically reduce scooter speed, but the inspection found it was not working correctly.
Another important issue is the inadequacy of mechanisms preventing minors from renting scooters. Police identified cases of teenagers renting scooters using other people's accounts.
Operator Obligations
Based on the identified violations, police issued corresponding instructions to operators. Kick-scooter rental companies are obliged to eliminate all deficiencies as soon as possible and bring their operations into full compliance with legal requirements. Police will continue to monitor the implementation of new norms and conduct repeated inspections.
New Rules
It is worth recalling that from July 1, new rules for electric scooters came into effect in Kazakhstan. These rules regulate scooter use and are aimed at improving safety. From August 25, restrictions will become even stricter, increasing operator responsibility.
The police warned kick-scooter rental companies about the need to strictly comply with the law. Otherwise, administrative measures may be applied.
