An alley on Karasai Batyr Street in central Almaty is being improved to connect squares into a single pedestrian zone. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The first section of the alley from Abylai Khan Avenue to Nauryzbai Batyr Street was improved in 2025. Currently, work is underway on the next segment from Nauryzbai Batyr Street to Masanchi Street. Its length exceeds 500 meters.
On this section, a passage that was previously blocked by a summer terrace of one of the restaurants has been restored. After negotiations with city authorities, the owners of the establishment dismantled the structure themselves.
"As part of the improvement, 3,500 square meters of paving stones have already been laid, 105 street lighting poles and 25 benches for rest have been installed," reported the akimat of Almaly district.
Along the alley, large trees and 8,000 shrubs are promised to be planted, and 9,000 square meters of lawn will be arranged. Irrigation has also been taken into account.
After completion of the work, the sections of the alley will be united into a single pedestrian route that will connect squares and other public spaces in central Almaty, including Karagaily Park. The department did not name exact deadlines.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote about plans to improve Sholokhov Street and create a pedestrian zone on Maiboroda Street in the Turksib district of Almaty.
