In Almaty, city residents drew attention to work near trees on Kurmangazy Street. The roots of green plantings ended up under concrete. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
On the section between Abylai Khan Avenue and Panfilov Street, landscaping and the organization of a gastro street are currently underway. A video appeared on social media showing the edge of the sidewalk being filled with concrete, drowning the roots of nearby trees. The clip was filmed opposite the square where the monument to Denis Ten stands.

The administration of the Almaly district explained that on the section, due to a steep slope, the level of the green zone is being raised. Allegedly, none of the living plants suffered from the poured concrete.
“Regarding the video materials circulating online, we explain: the object recorded in the footage is the stump of a tree that was cut down about two years ago. During the current work, living perennial plantings were not damaged,” the akimat wrote.
The contractor was fined for violations during construction work and improper maintenance of the territory. The department promised to restore the green zone and plant new shrubs.
Recall that the first gastro street in Almaty was discussed in February. According to the akimat’s plans, a “quality urban promenade and a point of attraction for residents and guests” will appear on Kurmangazy Street.
