In Almaty on Saturday, July 18, traffic will be temporarily restricted due to the Summer Relay evening race. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the akimat, this year the race route will pass through the historical city center for the first time. The relay will take place on Tole bi, Kabanbay batyr, Panfilov streets and Abylai Khan avenue.

The longest restrictions will be on the section of Tole bi street from Panfilov street to Abylai Khan avenue. Traffic there will be closed from 09:00 on July 18 to 06:00 on July 19.

Other restrictions will be introduced on July 18 from 20:00 to 23:00. During this time, the following streets will be closed:

  • 01Tole bi street (from Panfilov to Abylai Khan)
  • 02Kabanbay batyr street (from Panfilov to Abylai Khan)
  • 03Panfilov street (from Tole bi to Kabanbay batyr)
  • 04Abylai Khan avenue (from Tole bi to Kabanbay batyr)

The competition program starts at 18:00 with children's races over distances of 500, 1000 and 2000 meters. At 20:00, a mass 2-kilometer run begins, and at 21:00, the Summer Relay team relay starts. Teams of five people will cover a distance of 10 kilometers.

Organizers recommend that residents and guests of the city plan their route in advance and take into account temporary changes in the traffic scheme.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that traffic on a section of Tole bi street in Almaty would be closed for almost a month and a half.
