A woman was killed and several others injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving four cars in the Abai region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to preliminary data, the accident was caused by the inattention of one of the drivers. The tragedy occurred on July 9 at approximately 08:40 at the 885th kilometer of the Almaty–Ust-Kamenogorsk highway, near the village of Zharma in the Zharma district.
According to the police department of the Abai region, the driver of a Volkswagen Polo was distracted, lost control, and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a Volvo truck. Subsequently, a Toyota Windom and a DAF truck were also involved in the crash.
As a result of the collision, a female passenger of the Volkswagen Polo died at the scene. Several other participants in the accident were taken to the hospital with various injuries.
"A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Necessary investigative actions are being carried out, and all circumstances of the incident are being established," the regional police department reported.
The police reminded that even a few seconds of distraction—such as using a phone, talking, searching for items in the cabin, or other unrelated actions—can lead to tragedy.
Earlier, the Almaty police department issued a similar warning after two pedestrians died on the city's roads in a single day.
