A fire at an unauthorized landfill in the Talgar district of the Almaty region has been fully extinguished. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
"The fire area was 850 square meters. There are no casualties," the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
The garbage caught fire in an abandoned quarry near the village of Baite rek. A firefighting headquarters was set up at the scene and an uninterrupted water supply was ensured. Units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and local services were involved in extinguishing the fire.
Back in July, Kursiv reported on complaints from residents of Baite rek and neighboring settlements about burning garbage. Villagers said the former quarry near the village was being filled with waste and demanded that the landfills be closed.
