A fire at an active solid waste landfill in the Almaty region has been fully extinguished. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, there were no injuries.
The fire broke out at the exit from the village of Uzynagash in the Zhambyl district. The area of the fire was 500 square meters.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations had previously reported that extinguishing efforts were complicated by the depth of waste accumulation, which in some areas reached 3–5 meters. Water had to be delivered to the scene.
To stop the spread of the fire, bulldozers separated non-burning waste from areas engulfed in flames. Rescuers doused the hotspots, while loaders and dump trucks moved the waste and covered it with inert materials.
A total of 33 people and 22 units of equipment from the Almaty region Emergency Situations Department, local executive bodies, and military unit 28237 of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations took part in extinguishing the fire.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that a fire on an area of 14 hectares near Petropavlovsk had been localized.
