In the Karasay district of the Almaty region, a 65-year-old man hit two children with his car and fled. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The incident occurred during the day. According to doctors, one of the injured children is in serious condition.
"The children were taken to the clinical multidisciplinary central district hospital. Both patients underwent surgery and were placed in the intensive care unit. One child was transferred to a ward, the other is in serious condition," the Almaty region health department reported.
Police have opened a criminal case. "Currently, the 65-year-old driver who fled the scene after the accident has been identified and detained. He has been placed in a temporary detention facility," the regional police department reported.
Investigative measures are underway.
