In Almaty Region, members of an organized criminal group have been sentenced to long prison terms. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The specialized inter-district criminal court of Almaty Region issued a verdict against 10 members of an organized criminal group operating in correctional facility No. 14, located in the village of Zarechny.

It was established that between 2022 and 2024, certain convicts serving sentences at the facility formed a stable organized criminal group. They committed illegal acts against other convicts using psychological pressure and physical force.

"Members of the organized criminal group systematically extorted money from other convicts. The proceeds were transferred to bank cards and accounts under their control in Kaspi and other mobile applications. Victims who refused to comply were subjected to beatings, humiliation, and other forms of physical violence," the statement said.

The court found the members of the organized criminal group guilty on all counts of the charges and sentenced them to imprisonment ranging from 10 to 15 years. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
