Two women sustained injuries while climbing peaks in the Zailiysky Alatau. They were taken to the hospital by helicopter. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The press service of the Emergency Department of Almaty reported details about the victims. The first climber is 22 years old. She came from Russia and was part of a group ascending the peak "Oktyabrenok" in the Karasai district of the Almaty region. Its height is 3480 meters. During the ascent, the girl suffered an open leg fracture.
The second climber, also a Russian citizen, was ascending the peak "Mayakovsky" in the Talgar district. At an altitude of 4208 meters, the 34-year-old victim also sustained an injury. The nature of the injury was not specified.
The girls were evacuated by rescuers and doctors of the Ministry of Emergency Situations on an Mi-8 helicopter. The work was carried out in difficult high-altitude conditions; the pilot had to land on sites limited by steep slopes.
"After the evacuation, the aircraft landed on the helipad of the City Clinical Hospital No. 4 in Almaty. The victims were handed over to doctors for necessary medical assistance," the press service reported.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that in the mountains of Almaty, rescuers came to the aid of a teenager whose condition worsened due to mountain sickness.
