In the Karasai District Interdistrict Criminal Court of Almaty Region, a defendant, disagreeing with the verdict, inflicted an injury on himself in the courtroom. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the regional court, the defendant was accused of raping his stepdaughter over several years. The court hearing was held behind closed doors. The court sentenced him to 19 years of imprisonment.
During the announcement of the verdict, the defendant stated that he disagreed with the decision and injured his neck with an object resembling iron. An ambulance was called to the scene, and the defendant was taken to the hospital.
According to the Almaty Regional Court, the incident occurred on October 13. "In the specialized interdistrict court for criminal cases, a verdict was read to a citizen accused of committing a crime under paragraph 2 of part 3 of Article 120 of the Criminal Code. During the announcement of the verdict, the defendant inflicted bodily injury on himself as a sign of protest. In this regard, the relevant law enforcement agencies and the court administration are conducting an investigation," the regional court reported.
