An aerial visual inspection of the mudflow situation was carried out in the mountains of Almaty city and Almaty region, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Specialists from Kazselenzashchita, together with representatives of the Emergency Department of Almaty and Almaty region, conducted an aerial visual inspection of the mountainous area using a Mi-8 AMT helicopter of Kazaviarescue JSC. The inspection covered the northern part of the Zailiysky Alatau ridge – from the Kaskelen River basin to the Turgen River basin.

The main purpose of the monitoring was to assess the condition of glacial lakes and glacial complexes, mudflow channels, and the overall mudflow situation in the region. According to the inspection results, most glacial lakes are in the seasonal filling phase.

In addition, high-altitude lakes have not yet fully emerged from winter mode. Some lakes, depending on altitude and slope exposure, are still completely covered with ice and snow cover. Surface runoff is observed only in isolated areas. No signs of increased water turbidity in rivers were recorded.

The thickness of snow cover in mountainous areas ranges from 20 to 50 centimeters. The snow line is located at an altitude of 3300-3500 meters above sea level, the report said.

Based on the inspection results, the mudflow situation in the river basins of Almaty city and Almaty region is assessed as stable, experts say.
