A landfill on the outskirts of Uzynagash village in the Zhambyl district of the Almaty region has caught fire again. The blaze has been localized, but several factors are complicating the firefighting effort. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the press service of the Almaty region Emergency Situations Department, an operational headquarters is working at the scene. The depth of waste in some areas reaches five meters, which hinders firefighting. Water is being delivered, while bulldozers are simultaneously mixing the waste and covering it with inert materials.
"The fire has been localized across an area of 300 square meters. Ten people and 7 units of equipment from the Almaty region Emergency Situations Department, the akimat and military unit 28237 of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan are involved in extinguishing it," the department noted.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that a larger fire at the same landfill occurred about a week ago, on September 11. At that time, the fire spread across an area of 500 square meters.
UPD. At 16:49 on September 19, it became known that the fire had been extinguished.
