The search for 70-year-old Alexander Savorovsky, who suffers from dementia, has been ongoing for nearly two weeks in the Almaty region. Relatives, police officers, and volunteers have joined the search operation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to his relatives, the man left home on June 11 and his whereabouts have been unknown since then.
As reported by Akmaral Aitpenova, commander of the rapid response search and rescue squad "Kogam," the search is being conducted in the area of the village of Almalybak.
"We are checking fields, reservoirs, using a drone to survey all nearby areas of the village," she said.
According to CCTV footage, after leaving home, the pensioner boarded a bus and headed to the Altyn Orda market. He then transferred to another route and headed towards the Kaskelen highway.
According to the missing man's daughter, Anna Koldurmidi, her father suffers from dementia and is unable to provide information about himself to others.
"He doesn't remember his name. He doesn't know his family members or his address. He still went to Altyn Orda. From Altyn Orda, he immediately got on a bus, then transferred to two more buses. The last point where we were able to track him is the 19th kilometer of the Kaskelen highway," the woman said.
Currently, more than 100 people are involved in the search. Volunteers, police officers, and relatives are surveying the territory of Almalybak and adjacent areas. It is not ruled out that the pensioner may have returned to Almaty.
