Parents in the Almaty region have raised the alarm, claiming their child contracted hepatitis C during a blood transfusion. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the child's father, everything began after the family's trip to Turkey. The child developed a severe cough and fever. After returning to Kazakhstan, he experienced nosebleeds.
Subsequently, the child was urgently taken to the regional children's clinical hospital with a diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenia, where he received a blood transfusion. Later, the child was transferred to the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery for further treatment.
There, a PCR test revealed that the child had hepatitis C. The parents believe the infection may have been transmitted during the blood transfusion.
In connection with this incident, the Department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control of the Almaty Region, the Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Department of Ile District, and the Health Department of the Almaty Region are conducting a comprehensive investigation.
"Currently, medical documents, compliance with standards of medical care, and all circumstances of the incident are being studied. The administration of the regional children's clinical hospital is providing full assistance to the inspecting authorities and submitting all necessary materials," the health department reported.
The final conclusion and legal assessment will be given based on the results of the inspection by authorized state bodies.
