Cyber police officers in the Almaty region prevented a local resident from becoming a victim of online fraud. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Polisia.kz.

The man was under strong psychological influence of scammers. Following their instructions, he hid from relatives, stopped answering calls, and attempted to take out loans from several banks totaling more than 13 million tenge.

A signal about suspicious activity was received through a special system that detects fraudulent calls. Police found the man's wife and children and warned them about the situation. Relatives immediately contacted the banks, and as a result, the loans were not issued, police said.

The man himself was found on the territory of an industrial base. Even when meeting with police, he continued to trust the unknown individuals and did not listen to the police officers or his own son. Only after realizing he had nearly given the scammers more than 13 million tenge did he understand the situation.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, within one day, this system helped prevent 13 similar cases of online fraud in the Almaty region.

Police warn: if unknown people demand you hide the conversation from relatives, take out loans, transfer money, or install any applications, immediately stop communication. You should contact the bank or police yourself.
