In the Almaty region, more than one million trees were not planted, the Prosecutor General's Office reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
As part of the republican environmental campaign "Taza Kazakhstan", the specialized environmental prosecutor's office of the region conducted an analysis of compliance with legal requirements for compensatory tree planting.
"The analysis showed that the obligations to plant more than 1 million saplings, provided for when issuing permits for cutting green spaces, were not fulfilled in full," the statement said.
According to the department, in recent years authorized bodies have issued 307 permits for cutting down more than 100 thousand trees.
The most serious violations were detected in the Enbekshikazakh district, where more than 63 thousand trees were cut down under 120 permits, while compensatory planting was not fully implemented.
Following the measures taken, about 150 thousand trees have already been planted, and 11 officials have been brought to disciplinary responsibility.
