Three people have been convicted in the Almaty region for embezzling more than 101 million tenge allocated for social housing. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the regional prosecutor's office, the incident occurred in the Raiymbek district. Between 2019 and 2024, 55 residential houses with a total value of over 596 million tenge were purchased.
"Facts were established of unjustified inflation of housing costs, followed by cashing out budget funds and distributing them among the participants of the scheme. As a result, the state suffered damage in the amount of 101.4 million tenge," the prosecutor's office said.
By a court verdict dated August 5, three individuals were found guilty of committing a crime under Article 189 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 7-8 years of imprisonment.
In addition, they were deprived of the right to hold certain positions and engage in certain activities for life.
The court verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
