On September 8, the Almaty Museum of Arts will open the exhibition 'Mүсіндер: Sculpture of Kazakhstan from the 1950s to the Present Day'. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
It will be one of the main events of the new season and will be timed to the museum's first anniversary. According to the museum's press service, the exhibition will feature more than 50 works. Among the authors are Khakimzhan Nauryzbaev, Isaac Itkind, Yerkin Mergenov, Rysbek Akhmetov, Moldakul Narymbetov, and Aida Adilbek.
Exhibition Content
The exhibition will show how Kazakh sculpture has changed over the past 70 years. Visitors will see academic works from the Soviet period and pieces by contemporary artists. The exposition is divided into four thematic sections. In them, the authors address themes of man, family, memory, history, and national identity. Special attention is paid to how materials and the artistic language of sculptors have evolved.
'Mүсін' in Kazakh means both 'sculpture' and 'human figure'. Therefore, the image of a person will be the main character of the exhibition.
Curator and Partners
The project's curator is Doctor of Art History Aliya Tizengauzen. According to her, the exhibition should show sculpture not as a frozen art form, but as a living process that changes with society.
The exhibition will run from September 8, 2026, to May 2027. An illustrated catalog in Kazakh, Russian, and English will also be published for the project.
The exhibition's partner is Atasu Group. According to the company's founder Marat Zhuman, the project unites different generations and shows changes in the country through art.
