A passenger attempted to bring a telescopic baton into the Almaty metro. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Almaty Police Department, during an inspection using an X-ray television unit at one of the metro stations, police officers discovered a dangerous item – a telescopic baton – in a passenger's bag.
"The prohibited item was seized. An investigation is underway, and the citizen's actions will be given a legal assessment in accordance with current legislation," police reported.
The police reminded citizens that safety measures in the subway are aimed at protecting passengers, and attempts to bring prohibited items are invariably detected during inspections.
Earlier, it was reported that on July 1, 2026, strict restrictions on the carriage of personal mobility devices were introduced in the metro – now it is forbidden to bring electric scooters, electric bicycles, gyro scooters, and unicycles into carriages due to risks to fire and transport safety.
The Almaty metro continues enhanced security measures. Inspection of passengers and their luggage is carried out regularly using X-ray television units and metal detectors. Police officers thoroughly check all suspicious items.
Telescopic batons are among items prohibited for civilian circulation in Kazakhstan. Their storage, transportation, and use entail administrative or criminal liability. Such attempts to bring them into the metro are regularly detected.
The new rules, effective from July 1, 2026, prohibit the carriage of electric scooters, electric bicycles, gyro scooters, and unicycles in the metro. These restrictions are aimed at ensuring fire safety and passenger safety. The metro administration urges passengers to familiarize themselves with the new rules and comply with them.
The police emphasize that they are taking all necessary measures to ensure safety in the metro. Passengers are advised to follow safety rules and not attempt to bring prohibited items.
