Almaty Metro has published an explanation of why e-scooters are not allowed on trains. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Kursiv LifeStyle asked whether this ban also applies to regular bicycles and skateboards.

"Lithium-ion batteries under certain conditions can pose a risk of overheating or fire. Therefore, the Almaty Metro prohibits the transportation of e-bikes, e-scooters, electric unicycles, and hoverboards," the press service said.

The issue is the thermal runaway effect in such batteries. If the ambient temperature around a lithium-ion battery reaches critical levels, it begins to degrade and may catch fire.

However, this explanation does not clarify the ban on skateboards and regular bicycles in the metro, as they do not contain batteries.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that the restrictions do not apply to folding e-bikes and other electric transport in cases, baby strollers, and wheelchairs.

The metro's decision has sparked mixed reactions among citizens. Some support the safety measures, while others point out the inconsistency of the ban. The lack of explanation for bicycles and skateboards, which have no batteries, is particularly puzzling.

Metro officials have not yet commented on possible further clarifications. The situation continues to be debated in the city community, with many hoping for more detailed information.

Residents are advised to consult official sources for rules on transporting vehicles in the metro. The metro press service has stated its readiness to answer additional questions.

This case highlights the importance of safety measures in the urban transport system and the need to adapt rules to modern technologies.
